National Search and Rescue Center joins the International Maritime Rescue Federation

This step aims at reinforcing cooperation, and exchanging information and experience in Search and Rescue in cooperation with 112 organizations in 48 countries.

Abu Dhabi, 29 October, 2017 – The National Search and Rescue (NSRC) affiliated to the UAE Supreme Council for National Security, has announced that it joined the membership of the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF),  an international charity organization which pays great efforts to save human lives and avoid their loss in International Waters all over the globe. Such move is aimed at not only leveraging IMRF vast experience along with that of various governmental and non-governmental entities concerned with Search and Rescue, but it is also a chance for reinforcing cooperation, and exchanging information and expertise among all member organizations. Moreover, such step will come in handy in facilitating access to a large collection of books and studies, in addition to attending international seminars, exhibitions and workshops related to maritime Search and Rescue.

IMRF is a global organization working with governmental and non-governmental organizations to achieve the desired aim of saving human souls, and helping drifted and straying ships and boats. IMRF has 112 of member organizations that belong to 48 countries, all joining hands and efforts to limit losses of human lives. The membership of IMRF includes Rescue Coordination Centers, Coast Guard, and Volunteer Response Organizations.

On this occasion, Mr. Obaid Al-Zahmi, Deputy Director General of the National Search and Rescue Center, said: "Our membership of the International Maritime Rescue Federation reflects the high levels we have reached in the field. Certainly, joining this world organization will greatly add to the representation of our beloved country, information and expertise exchange, and will enhance our ability to study the best means to avoid losses in human lives in Regional and International Waters. 

It is worth mentioning that the Abu Dhabi-based National Search and Rescue Center undertakes all tasks related to Search and Rescue operations all over the country. The Center's established was a clear reflection of the wise guidance and aspiration attached to the unprecedented growth witnessed by the United Arab Emirates over the past four decades, under the wise vision of our Leadership, which spares no efforts in adopting all necessary measures and procedures to protect the safety of nationals and residents of the UAE.
